Vampyria
Teatro Corsario
In a battlefield one night nearly a century ago, a soldier named Sergei tries to save a beautiful woman, Sdenka, from sure death, by pulling down the stake which pierces her body. Sdenka dies, comes back to life and falls in love with him. From that point on she follows him endlessly, feeding exclusively on his blood.
Vampyria is a show full of surprises, with puppets that act like humans. It's violent and tender. It has electrifying music, subtle humour and explicit eroticism. It revolves around a female vampire, a legendary monster like the winged mermaids that seduced Ulyses. Vampyria is mantis-woman, a lover-eater. She is the "natural woman" who impressed Baudelaire; the terrible woman who dies and is converted, like the painters of symbolism, into the animal of their own desire.
Zoo, the legend of the Monkey King
Naphtaline
King Bull, chief of the heavens, has imprisoned his arch enemy, Sun Wukung, the Monkey King. The prisoner is carried in a cage on the back of a huge creature, while the monkey tribe surrounds their leader crying out for his release. Acrobats, fire wizards, climbers, music and fireworks will all form part of the procession as they make their way through the streets of San Sebastian 's old city.
Created in 1988, the French theatre company Naphtaline will join the Festival once again with its new show, this time based on legends of the Far East . The troupe will present their particular world of Chinese fantasy inspired by the legend of the Monkey King, a symbol of revolution and rebellion against the establishment.
