Fantastic Euskadi I
Comic Book Encounters of San Sebastián is initiating a series of exhibitions dedicated to the past, present and future of Basque comics, specifically Basque authors who have left their mark on the fantasy genre.
This is the first edition of an extensive look at the work of two of our best-known and most-loved authors. José Ángel Labari (better known as Jali), born in Navarra in 1977, is the author of such stellar titles as A Berta le atormenta la tormenta and El niño miope, proof of the author's suggestive and imaginative universe. Iñaki G. Holgado (San Sebastián, 1973), is a full-fledged member of the Spanish fantasy comics hall of fame thanks to his fascinating Homocánido .
A special corner will also be dedicated to Xabiroi , a comic book published by the Federation of Ikastolas of Euskadi, a showcase for some of the best comic book authors in the Basque Country today.
30 years with Carlos Meglia: heroes and antiheros
To mark his thirty years as professional comic book illustrator and author, an exhibition will be on view of the complete works of Carlos Meglia (Buenos Aires, 1957). The display will contain the graphic work of one of the best strip cartoonists in Argentina in recent decades and certainly one of the most important in today's comic world. Meglia is the creator of Cybersix – one of the leading fantasy comic books – and the series Irish Coffee. His signature is also to be found on icons of popular culture including Star Wars and Superman.
Winner of a number of awards, including the prestigious Caran D´Ache in Rome (1995), Meglia began working as comic book illustrator and writer in the mid-seventies for a number of Argentine publications ( Péndulo , Satiricón ). Some of his most important work came from his collaboration with screenwriter Carlos Trillo. The team saw several of their projects made into television series. Meglia was also author of El libro de Gabriel , linked for several years to television studies such as the legendary Hannah-Barbera. This century Meglia has already worked with some of the major U.S. studios on his best-known projects: Elektra, WildCATS , Crimson and the recently released album Hombre de Acero. Currently he is working on new television series and projects with such familiar names as Crisse and Jodorowsky.

His extraordinary work helped revolutionize the industry and has been credited with spurring the 1980s comic art renaissance in the United States . Suydam, whose work is now being exhibited and acquired by major museums and festivals around the world, will be paid tribute at this year's Comic Book Encounters for a lifetime dedicated to comics, illustration and art.
Born in New Jersey in 1958, Suydam has signed his name to texts, screenplays, illustrations and comic strips for a countless number of magazines, books, series and/or characters. His work can be seen in such celebrated titles as Tarzan , Conan , Aliens , Batman and Predator, as well as in countless contributions to legendary publications ( Heavy Metal , Epic Illustrated , and our adored Creepy ...). Suydam's talent is applauded for his fanciful children's illustration in The Wind in the Willows and for his provocative and innovation home-spun creations ( Mudwogs , Cholly & Flytrap ).
